Stephanie,

I have researched my Hillhouse family in Scotland back to the early 1700's. The name is a fairly uncommon one but does seem to have its roots in Scotland and perhaps Ireland. It is a virtually unknown name in England. Most of the Hillhouses I have come across, appear to come from Riccarton and Kilmarnock (both in Ayrshire) and some from Glasgow. I would suggest that you contact the East Ayrshire Family History society for more help with the Riccarton and Kilmarnock connections. Their address is:

eastayrfhs@crosshoose.freeserve.co.uk

and their website is:

http://www.crosshoose.freeserve.co.uk/eastayrfhs/eastayrfhs.htm

Hope this is of some use, please do not hesitate to Email me should you require further help.

Peter Rennie
