I'm looking forward to reading you posts. I'm at a dead end with James Monroe Hillhouse and Eliza Elmira Carson's family. I will share what I have on Eliza Elmira Carson's ancestors.

Eliza Elmira Carson was the daughter of William Hugh Carson b. 9/21/1819 married Elmira Rose Carroll on 9/21/1841 in Pickens Co., AL, he died 12/19/1878 and burried in the Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Hohenlinden, Webster Co., MS.

Elmira Rose Carson b. 3/30/1825 in New Hope, Lincoln Co., NC and died 10/4/1864 in Hohenlinden, Webster Co., MS and buried in the same cemetery. Elmira Rose was the daughter of Jenny Gilmer and James H. Carroll.

Jenny Gilmer was the daughter of William Robert Gilmer and his first wife whose name I don't have. Jenny had a brother named Notley Gilmer who died about 1848 in Jefferson City, TX. His widow Martha "Aunt Pasty" also lost a daughter name Lucy Ann Gilmer in about the same year. She raised her son Airs Marion Gilmer and two of the three orphaned Thomspon children. All of them moved to Halletsville, Lavaca Co., TX and then on to Kerr Co., TX. There are some descedants of Air Marion Gilmer still living. Jenny's other siblings were Cynthia and Elmira, but I don't have anything but their names. William Robert always went by the name Robert and he died about 1834 in Pickens Co., AL He married a second time Jemima Morris and they had 9 children. I'm a descendant of this second marriage. In a book called "Ann Was Her Name: A Pioneer Teacher in Texas" it says that Willliam Robert Gilmer was the son of one John Gilmer who was a son of the famous Dr. George Gilmer of Williamsburg and his wife Harrison Blair. At this point I can't establish this as proof. The book says that papers existed in 1940s which had William Robert Gilmers lineage. I came to this GenForum thinking that perhaps one of you might have stumbled on the connection.

Here to each of you for your continuing Hillhouse spirit in looking for you ancestors.

Wishing you the best,
