Seeking information on any descendants of Thomas Hillhouse, born in Ct. and settled in Township of Watervliet, N.Y. and buried in Albany Rural Cemetery,N.Y.
Portrait of Thomas Hillhouse is found in the book:
Ezra Ames of Albany (portrait painter)painted in about
1817. Painting last known to be in the hands of wife of the GGgrandson of Thomas in Haverford Pa. Haverford PA
has no knowlege of the family. Thomas was a prominent
figure in the Albany, N.Y. area and one of the founders of the Watervliet Turnpike Company in 1830. Purchased almost 300 acres of land from the Schuyler family in 1803 and the estate of Thomas, and John Hillhouse his son, sold about 65 acres of land to help form Albany Rural Cemetery in 1841. Any information on the family or knowlege of the whereabouts of the portrait of Thomas Hillhouse by Ames would be appreciated. Contact Kevin Franklin, Historian,
