In Reply to: Josiah HINKLEY/HINCKLEY(b. ca. 1750)- Town of Coeymans, Albany Co., NY by Joe Kelly of 789

Hinckley Heritage & History, by E. Charles HINCKLEY (decd.) has

Josiah HINCKLEY, bpt. 6 Je. 1742, Truro, MA, s/o Josiah HINCKLEY, b. 24 Jan. 1694/5, Barnstable, MA, who m. 2 Mar. 1719/20, Truro, Lydia PAINE, b. 4 D 1700. [Descendants not given in the book.]

The 1790 Census has a Josiah HINKLEY in Watervliet Town, Albany Co., NY, 1-1-3 (one male over 16, one under, & three females). He's the only one in that vicinity, but also in Albany Co. were Gershom (Sr. & Jr. of Pittstown T.), Nathan (Saratoga T.), Paul & Samuel (Stephentown T.)

Gershom, Sr., would probably be Gershom (4 S 1730 - 15 Jan. 1809) m. by 1757, Catherine WIGHTMAN (9 F 1737 - 24 S 1807). They lived in Pittstown & Rome, NY, & are bu. Orikany Battlefield, Niles Hill Cem. Their son Gershom was b. 1763.

These are probably all descended from Samuel HINCKLEY, bpt. 25 May 1589, Harrietsham, Hawkhurst, Kent, who came on the Hercules in 1635 with wf. Sarah SOULE and children.
