Hi Tina,

I've just read an old message from you on the bulletin board and tried to reply, however I'm not sure that it posted correctly so I'll try again. Sorry if this is duplication.

I've been tracing my ancestry on and off for some years now and I too havebeen intrigued by stories of the Indian lady who was married to my Great Grandfather, Thomas Hindley. We may have a link!!

My Mother's maiden name was Thelma Hindley. Although she was born in Sedgley, Staffs. she has lived almost all of her life in Plymouth. Her parents were Winnifred Moore and William Hindley, who were married in 1926. Their address at marriage was 5, Brook Terrace, Bankfied Road, Bilston,
however they lived all of the rest of their lives in Plymouth.

William was born in 1905 in Wolverhampton to Thomas Hindley and Elizabeth Mahomet. They had several other children, one of whome was Thomas Hindley who was born in about 1889. This may have been your Grandfather.

Thomas and Elizabeth were married in 1888, in Stafford. Thomas was 38 and Elizabeth was 26 at the time and Thomas was listed as a widower.

The only other info I have been able to find out about Elizabeth was that she was born in 1862 to Joseph Mahomet and Mary Ann Pearson, so it look likes the British soldier marrying an Indian lady in when stationed may not be correct.

One more interesting fact is that Thomas (senior) died at a pretty good age in 1933 at the same address where my mother was born about three months later.

Have you had any success in learning more about Thomas and Elizabeth since last summer?
