origin of the surname hindley

I believe the surname hindley has three possible derivations;
1 a place name as in the town of Hindley in Lancashire.
2 a more exotic but pssibly true origin is that the Hindleys were originally deer hunters. In this case the name derives from two words 'hind' a female deer and 'lea' a piece of meadowland or pasturland.
3. the place where deer could be hunted. the Lea of hinds= hindley
