I have done some checking on Our Surname [American's] Hinsley (with Long I) is the correct spelling and pronounce with the long I . It is Originally a German Name : Heinzle(Hinsley). The Americanize names are Hensley,Hinesley,Hindsley and then of course the mis-spelleled Henley,Henney,Handley,Hansle,etc..ect... . Those Amecanize Spelling are Hinsley in most cases.Just got to do some diggin'. The deal is that they change there spelling for many reasons. One is to Americanize it.The Census,Newspapers,Obits,Documents dont check for the correct spelling of th Hinsley name in Our case. This is just an observation on my part and maybe yours ,too. Example: Mueller is Miller to Americans & British and sometime just kept it Mueller. Sinserely Jeff German,British,Irish,Scotish and Now American Name.
