This is an interchange that occurred recently on the S.C./Greenville Co. genforum site:
---------------------------------------------
David,
How sorry I am to hear of Bruce F. Hiott's death. I was fortunate enough to exchange information with him in May. He sent his
family tree that started with James Hiott of of the 1700's in S.Carolina on down to the last generation in his line.
He provided me with invaluable information that enabled me to make a connection between my g-great grandmother, Martha
Catherine Hiett (b. South Carolina) and her father, George Hiett (b. South Carolina), son of James, who moved from SC to Ky
and died there.
One of the first settlers into Calloway and Marshall Co., Ky was John Hiatt. His first wife (unknown) died in SC. He married his
second wife, Sarah "Sally" [in?] Greenville and shortly after they moved to Ky.There was a story that the land he bought from the
Indians in Marshall Co., Ky, contained a silver mine, butit has never been found.
All of the Hiott/Hiett/Hiatt families of marshall and Calloway co., Ky in the 1850 census's were born in South Carolina. The Hiott family names that you asked me about I have not come across so far.
You may have Bruce Hiott's family tree. If you do not I will be glad to send you a copy. Also I will be glad to send you any information on some of the Hiott families of Ky that I may have.
Betty

Betty, We will all miss Bruce Hiott AND his contributions to Hiott research. The FTM report that he left with me 8/99 was 5
1/2 pages. His "generation 4" included James M. Hiott/& children; and John Charles Hiott/& children. If this is what you have,
then we probably have the same thing. If you have more, then I would like to see any newer work.
By the way, I was in Piedmont, SC, today and saw the headstone of J C Hiott at Mt. Pisgah Bap. Ch. cem. I think that this was
John Charles Hiott's stone, but the headstone dob is 9-14-1844, while Bruce's date for John Charles is 1846? Also, it should
be mentioned that there was an uncle of John Charles Hiott whose name was John C. Hiott (b.11-5-1821, d. 11-1842) and
who married Mary T. Berry.
