Only that he is buried at Providence Bapt. cemetery, Cassatt, SC [Kershaw Co.]. He had a sister, or possibly older wife, buried with him: Mary A. Hyatt. His father was R. James Hyatt [b. 1838], gf was Richard Hyatt [b. 1808], and ggf was Charles Hyott [b. abt 1775], the son of Capt. Ezekiel Hyott, who was apparently the leader of some irregular Patriot militia of the Little Pee Dee River area [modern times = Dillon, SC].
Ezekiel & Charles mainly spelled their names "Hyott," while the half brothers of Ezekiel [Arthur, Joseph, Joel] spelled the name "Hiott." The Tories had "wrecked havoc" with the properties of the patriots of the Pee Dee area, and vice versa. There wasn't much left for most of the Hyotts & Hiotts, by war's end.
Ezekiel's older son, Isaac Hyott/Hyatt, consolidating Hyott land, remained in the Marion/Dillon, SC area, while Ezekiel and son Charles moved to the Sumter District before 1800. My ancestors [the Hiott half brothers] also moved to Sumter Dist. for a while, but soon moved on to upper Colleton Co., SC, where land was being awarded to Rev. Patriot veterans.
As Thanksgiving approaches, and we contemplate the struggles and sacrifices of these early ancestors, how thankful we should be for all that we have today --- and thankful for the wonderful heritage that they have provided us.
