My grandmother, Phebe (Phoebe) Jane, but mostly known as Jennie, was born in 1861, in Cairo, Illinois to Henry Hoag Hoag and Mary Jane McCauslen of Stubenville, Ohio. Henry was the son of Obadiah Hoag and his wife, Phoebe Hoag, a distant cousin.
Jennie lived in Atco, New Jersey, which is where she married my grandfather, Walter Giddings. A John W. Hoag also lived there, and John's sons, Clarence and Frederick A. Hoag, the latter best known for his work as editor of the Philadelphia North American. John was said to have come from Michigan.
I have a two yellowed pages from an album with just a small amount of information, which I have transcribed as follows:
Mary Elizabeth Hoag was born Nov. 29, 1850, and died 1852
Caroline Sarah Hoag was born Dec. 12, 1853
Phebe Jane Hoag [Jennie] was born March 18, 1861 [in Cairo, Illinois]
Mary Jane Hoag was born May 4, 1822, died March 12, 1882
Henry H. Hoag was born April 26, 1820, died 1907
Caroline ? Hoag born June 13, 1823, died August 9, 1854
Irving C. Hoag born Sept. 6, 1847, died January 17, 1849
Minerva Amelia Hoag born Dec. 19, 1848, died August 10, 1887
I would be glad to share information Xerox copies with anyone. I'd also like to know the relation of Jennie with John. You can find me at firstname.lastname@example.org
