Wilbur Hoag & Aurelia Williams
Posted by: Bill Williams (ID *****7108) Date: September 28, 2010 at 12:14:57

Wilbur Hoag, b. Hampton, NH 28 Mar 1780, son of Benjamin Hoag and Elizabeth Wilbur, m. Aurelia Williams, b. 14 Oct 1789 in Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., NY. I descend from their daughter, Aurelia, who m. Samuel Brown and died in Potter Co. PA, 1876.
Most accounts say that Wilbur died in Marion, IN in 1835, yet I can't find any evidence of that. He supposedly left Genesee Co., NY and was in Indiana by 1820, with his son, Orrin. His daughters were minors and stayed in NY, because they all married and lived their lives in the western, NY & PA areas. It's hard to believe Wilbur would leave his minor children in NY immediately after his wife, Aurelia Williams dies in 1819 and end up in Indiana.
Can anyone substantiate where Wilbur went? There are accounts of a Wilbur Hoag, preacher, in the Genesee County area in the 1820's and 1830's, but they may be about his nephew, Wilbur Hoag b. 1806, son of Samuel.
Any help on this is appreciated.
