My paternal grandfather, James Francis Hobbins, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA). On the 1930 PA Census he lists age 50 at last birthday so he was born in 1879 or 1880. He died in Philadelphia, PA in 1942/43. He was married to Emma James from PA. Both of his parents were born in Ireland. He had a sister named Anna, born 1893/94 also in PA who married
John Mc Philips. He may also have had a sister named Mary, who lived in PA, and a brother named Philip, who lived in New Jersey. My father, James Francis Hobbins,Jr., had always said that we were of Irish descent. I saw on an Irish genealogy website that in a surname survey done in Ireland from 1846 to 1864 there were only 11 people with the Hobbins surname. Three were in County Galway and, the remaining eight, in County Tipperary.
Wish I knew the names of my grandfather's parents!
