My father was James F. HOBBINS (b. 1921 PA;d.1987 PA). His parents were James F HOBBINS (b.1880 PA; d.1942/43 PA) and Emma JAMES (b.1881 PA;d.1937 PA), both born in PA. Both of grandfather HOBBINS' parents were born in Ireland. Both of grandmother HOBBINS' parents were born in PA. Emma had 2 children by Richard STEADMAN/STEDMAN ~ Ruth (b.1908 in Maryland) and Richard (b.1911 in PA). On 1920 PA Census my grandmother appears (w/ my grandfather) with the surname HOBBINS along w/ her 2 children but they still have the surname STEDMAN at that time. On 1930 PA Census Ruth and Richard appear w/ the surname HOBBINS w/ my father and grandmother. Grandfather HOBBINS is not listed w/ them. He was in & out of my father's life. I don't know for sure that my grandparents were ever married.
If I have the correct family my grandfather appears on the 1930 PA Census, as brother in law, living w/ his step-sister Anna, nee DORSEY, and her husband John McPHILIP(s)/ McPHILLIP(s) along w/ Anna's sister May (Mame) and a boy Paul, aged 14, listed as nephew.
My grandmother Emma JAMES, I believe, was from the Carlisle area of PA. My father often spoke of visiting relatives there as well as Fort Washington, PA. My father grew up in Philadelphia around the 11th and Brown Sts. area.
Does anyone have a connection between their HOBBINS and any of these surnames?
