I am seeking information on an unknown male HOE (HOUGH) who married Bernice May (Mae) SMITH - probably between the years 1908 and 1915 - probably in Columbus, Ohio.
Bernice May (Mae) SMITH was the daughter of Henry Augustus "Gus" SMITH and Avarilla "Avie" PRATT of Nelsonville, Athens County, Ohio. Some time in the early 1900's the family moved to the Columbus, Ohio area, where Bernice probably met and married the unknown male HOE (HOUGH).
The marriage was most likely brief and ended in divorce - probably between the years 1910 and 1920 - as Bernice is found in the 1920 Census living with her parents as "Bernice HOUGH (HOE)" and is listed as "divorced".
As a result of this brief union, a child was born in November of 1914, probably also in Columbus, Ohio - Ralph Lee HOE (HOUGH) - my father. Ralph may have been a "junior", but since his birth certificate has not been located, this cannot be confirmed.
In 1923, Bernice May (Mae) SMITH HOE (HOUGH) met and married Ernest Weimer JANSEN in Columbus, Ohio. Soon after the marriage, the new family moved to the Atlanta, Georgia area. Ernie adopted my father, and my father assumed the name Ralph Lee JANSEN. Contact with relatives living in Ohio was limited.
Any information on the marriage / divorce of Bernice May (Mae) SMITH to this unknown male HOE (HOUGH) and her marriage to Ernest Weimer JANSEN would be gratefully appreciated.
I have much information on Bernice's life in Atlanta and I am willing to share.
