Nederland started keeping records of births, etc., as a state function, in 1810. Before that the records were kept by the churches and so it would be important to know where they lived. If it is Ouddorp, that would simplify it. ThereŽs a library of genealogical records in The Hague/Den Haag, and although I might not be getting over there it should be possible to find the information directly. IŽll see if I can find some references. They have smaller libraries in the provinces and IŽve been to the one in Arnhem, finding them very helpful.
Ouddorp is a pleasant old beach town, as I recall, less crowded than the ones which are not far north and nearer the large cities. Just looking for the right weather and an excuse to go to the beach.
P.S., as for my own Hooks, I still donŽt know if they were English, German or Dutch in origin.
