Cornelia Hoek Schelhaas obit submitted

"Cornelia (Cora) Schelhaas was born to Klaas and Anna (Van Ameyden) Hoek on March 24, 1919, in Moulton Township, where she was raised and attended country schools around Chandler, Minnesota. Following her education, she continued to reside in the area. On July 10, 1953, she was united in marriage to Jacob Alfred Schelhaas at her brotherís farm near Holland, Minnesota. Cora was a homemaker as well as a clerk at Huiskens Brothers Store in Edgerton, Minnesota. Following their retirement, they continued to reside in Edgerton. In February of 2003, she and her husband moved to the Slayton Manor in Slayton, Minnesota. Jacob preceded her in death on May 22, 2003. After his death, Cora moved to the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton in June of 2003. On Friday, September 8, 2006, Cora was transported to the emergency room at the Pipestone County Medical Center where she later passed away at the age of 87. Cora was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton. She enjoyed volunteering at the Union Gospel Mission. She was a member of the Edgebrook Auxiliary. Her interests were gardening, knitting, and fishing with her husband, Jacob.

She is lovingly remembered by her two sisters: Anne Talsma and Minnie Huisken, both from Edgerton; many nieces and nephews; and three brothers-in-law: John Schelhaas, Ruthton, MN; Vernon Schelhaas, Edgerton, MN; and Lloyd Schelhaas, Lakewood, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob; her parents; four sisters: Susie Tinklenberg, Nellie Hoek, Christina Tinklenberg, Clara Vander Woude; brother Pete Hoek; and an infant brother John.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton. Burial is in Hillside Cemetery, Edgerton. Colonial Funeral Home in Edgerton was in charge of arrangements."
