Mr. Strawser, you mentioned a census entry with the apparently handwritten age of "74"
instead of "14." Many teachers of handwriting in the 19th century required a prominent "flag" atop the downstroke of the number 1. It can be distinguished from a "7"
by a cross-stroke through the downstroke of
the "7." If you check the other entries in that census listing you might find that cross-stroke through the "7" in ages or addresses, in which case the age of your Jacob would actually have been 14.
