HOGG from Belfast & Gloucestershire
Hi,
I am researching John HOGG B 1818 in Belfast, Co AntrimIreland (father's name was James HOGG) who married Sarah CHAMBERS also born there about 1825. They moved to Gloucestershire after the marriage and had some children near Bristol. They moved to Purton, Wiltshire for a while, from about 1848 to 1852 then returned to Clifton, Gloucestershire, living in Horfield Gloucestershire. John HOGG was a bookseller. His wife, Sarah HOGG died 1858 and John HOGG re-married Elizabeth HOGG the same year. There were a number of children born, and I have records for most of them, but I am looking for John HOGG b December 1848 in Purton, near Swindon, Wiltshire ( found in 1851 & 1861 census)& Sarah HOGG born early 1854 in Horfield Gloucestershire. She was a servant in 1871 in Woolaston, Chepstowe. Then I believe she moved to Newport Monmouthshireafter having worked for the TRITTON family as a servant. She had a son James HOGG born 15 June 1874 while living at 66 Blewitt Street Newport Monmouthshire. His birth was registered 3 July 1874. No father's name is on the birth cert, and Sarah HOGG is stated as being a domestic servant. From newspaper articles, the father was George Henry TRITTON, born 1851 Hackney London and who sadly died 1878 aged 27 in Keynsham, Somerset UK (he had planned to go to Canada). I have not been able to find Sarah HOGG or her son James HOGG after the newspaper articles in 1875, but it was said she was living in the Union workhouse in Newport,Monmouthshire. If anyone knows about this family please contact me! Many thanks, Jocelyn
