Homer Holdredge,Jr 2/17/09
Poor House, Dewittville, Chautauqua Co., NY, 1860 HOLDRIDGE, Felix, 85, b. RI, old age
HOLDRIDGE, Martha, 81, b. NY, old age
They were not listed together, and no relationship is stated.
Here's another theory. There were in Schaghticoke, Albany Co., NY, 1790, HOLDRIDGE:
Felix, 1-2-2, & Thomas, 3-4-4 (males 16+, under 16, & females).
The Felix HOLDRIDGE who would have had children by 1790 was probably Felix (1742 - 7 Mar. 1803), s/o Thomas, b. 1717. Thomas, b. 19 Nov. 1763 (son of Felix, b. 1742), couldn't have had a large family by 1790, since he married 23 Aug. 1786, but Thomas, b. 1744 (listed on RootsWeb Family Trees, brother of Felix b. 1742), might be the other one. Then it would make sense for the ones in Chautauqua Co., 1860, to be sons of Felix, b. 1742: Thomas, 96, b. Nov. 1763, & Felix, 85, b. 1774/5.
Another clue, in Chautauqua Co., 1860: Randall T. HLDRICH (HOLDRIDGE), 52, had wf. Lucy M., 52; & ch. Sxton, 22; Adelaid, 17; & Phineas, 16.Randall HOLDRIDGE of Holdridge Corners was born in Plainfield, Otsego Co., NY, 17 Mar. 1808, & died 5 Sep. 1887, aged 79, bu. North East, Erie Co., PA; wf. Lucy [SAXTON / SEXTON] (25 Feb. 1810, Paris, Oneida, NY - 19 Sep. 1892).In 1880, Mina, Chautauqua, NY, they were listed as Randle, 72, & Lucia, 70, they & parents b. NY. In 1860, Chautauqua Co., their son was listed as Isaac HOLDRIDGE, 26; wf. Mary; & unnamed child of one month (Mary).
Otsego was formed from Montgomery Co., but there was no HOLDRIDGE in Montgomery in 1790.In 1810, the census taker listed only an initial, so in Otsego we have A. (2), D., F., J., S., & T. (2).In 1820 & 1830, the only family of Plainfield, Otsego Co., was that of Thompson, & in 1850, Thompson & James HOLDRIDGE.In 1850:
Thompson, 74; Betsey, 69; William P., 35.
James M., 33; Percis, 28; Henry S., 10; Ann E., 4.
Plainfield, Otsego, 1860:William P., 45; Anna, 29; Betsey, 79.
M. must have become C. by 1860, because he fits the one of Madison P. O., Madison Co., NY, HOLDRIDGE: James C., 43; Persis, 38; Henry, 20.
There was another Randall HOLDRIDGE (25 Aug. 1808 - 15 Jan. 1885), son of Nathan HOLDRIDGE & Hannah BROWN of Groton, New London, CT, but he appears to have stayed in Connecticut.
Mina Corners Cemetery, from Mina Scrapbook:
Alexander D. HOLDRIDGE (24 Je. 1813, Plainfield, Otsego, NY - ca. 1890) m. Almeda Jane PARK of Winfield, NY, who died in 1910, West Mina, aged 86. Her pallbearers were grandsons George, Frank, Dell, & Roy SKELLIE, George BUCKLEY & John BEUSINK {?}.In 1900, she said b. Sep. 1824, had six children, two living.Alexander was survived by daus. Melissa (wf/o Job SKELLIE) & Sarah (wf/o Jerome A. BUCKLEY), & son Chester P., who m. Ruth SKELLIE.In 1860, they were Alex D., 46; Almeda J., 35; Melissa, 17; Chester, 16; & Sarah, 7.
So, of the HOLDRIDGE families of Chautauqua Co., NY, 1860, the ones I could trace seem to have moved there from eastern New York, where the families were found 1790+.Do you have more clues about the Rhode Island HOLDRIDGE families?
