I have researched Jacob Holland of Pendleton District, SC. If you like, we can exchange information.
The families of Jacob Holland and his father-in-law Thomas Harrison moved to the Tugaloo River region of Georgia/SC in 1785. The early settlers of this area were Revolutionary War veterans, many of whom were friends and relatives of Colonel Benjamin Cleveland who moved from Wilkes County, NC to the Tugaloo in 1784. Jacob Holland had connections by marriage to Clevelands, Guests, Shannons, and Patricks.(Note John Shannon and Hugh Patrick in the 1782 Montgomery Co. Va tax list.)
(Note; All Clevelands listed here are children of Rev. John Cleveland, brother of Col. Benjamin Cleveland.)
- Jacob Holland mar. Mary "Polly" Harrison (dau. of Thomas)
- Nancy Harrison (sister-in-law) mar. William Cleveland
- Benjamin Harrison (bro.-in-law) mar Elizabeth Cleveland
- Margaret Holland (dau.) mar Benjamin Cleveland
- Mary Cleveland (dau.) mar Allen Guest (son of William)
- Benjamin Holland (son) mar Margaret Shannon (dau. of John)
- Hugh Patrick (rel. unproven) receives money from Jacob Holland's estate. He also witnesses deeds with Jacob.
James, Andrew, and Thomas Holland lived nearby in the 1790s and are possible relatives of Jacob Holland. An 1809 deed refers to Thomas Holland of the State of Tennessee, brother of Jacob Holland. Other Hollands in the county belong to the family of Rev. Moses Holland who came from Charlotte Co., Va. to the Saluda River in SC.
I have looked at the following Holland families in SW Virginia during the 1780s. Members of these different groups of Hollands seem to interact a lot.
-Benjamin, Jacob, Thomas, and John Holland are found in Pittsylvania Co, Va starting in 1777. All are found in Montgomery Co, Va shortly afterwards. I think Benjamin, Thomas, and John move on to Greene Co, Tn and Jacob to the Tugaloo River in SC. This group may have a Maryland origin or they may be related to Peter Holland.
-Thomas Holland of Hallifax County, Va. mar Phoebe Rickman. He is supposibly born in Nansemond County, Va. He moves to Washington Co., Va. , then to Greene Co., Ga.Harrison P. Holland of White Co., TN is supposed to be his son.
- Peter Holland of Bedford County, Va. His sons include Asa, Jesse, and George. He is also supposed to have a son named Benjamin, but Benjamin may be too young to be the one living in Pittsylvania. Peter Holland may be an uncle of Rev. Moses Holland.
