Your write-up of the history was a real pleasure to read. I'll follow up on your suggestion to investigate the Valentine - Sussanah line.

In the meantime, I worked with Lydia's saying she was from Buncombe/Yancey Counties. Since Yancey was formed in part from Buncombe in 1833, and Lydia was born 1829-1832, I checked the census. (Buncombe County records burned in 1830 or so.) I found no Holifields in Buncombe in 1820, 1830, 1840 or 1850. In Yancey in the 1840 Census, there are William A. is age 50-60; Jacob is 40-50; and Daniel is 30-40.

I wonder if anyone has something on this group of Holyfields.

Thanks for everything.

Sandy Anderson
