I can't help you much with the Padgetts, but I'm interested because they seemed to move with some of the Hollifields.

I did want to comment, though, that through about 1770 Rowan County was everything west of a north-south line that would run approximately through Charlotte, and north of the County of Anson along an east-west line that might run through Raleigh. In 1770 Surry Co. was cut out of the northeast corner of Rowan County. So it's possible that the family never moved. I believe the maps were at a North Carolina Archives site.
