I have recently found records that state that the John Clayton, who married Mary Holleman, was the son of John and Elizabeth Clayton, and that this John Clayton was the son of Thomas Claytor (yes "r") and Katherine, his wife. Thomas Claytor died in 1717/18 in Westmoreland Co., VA, and he did leave a Will. But, a John Clayton is not mentioned on this Will, only his wife, and his son Thomas Claytor, Jr.
Katherine Claytor died in 1720, also leaving a Will, but, again, it only mentions Thomas Claytor, Jr. This information can be found in the COMPENDIUM OF AMERICAN GENEALOGY, Volume V, page 125, column 2. It also states that the John Clayton, who was married to Elizabeth, was born in 1671 and died 1758/9. I suspect that the Will of the above Thomas Claytor was written well after his death, in order to transfer property that he owned. Not all Wills written back in those days, listed all the children. If his wife had the Will written, then she would have left everything to her favorite son, and herself. Thomas Claytor, Jr. died in 1756, possibly in Westmoreland Co., VA.
