John Hoomes in Kentucky 1780s and 1790s
Anybody know this/these John Hoomes of Kentucky? There may be a couple, or one, "John" involved. I am chasing the descendants of Edward Holmes of Garrard County, Kentucky. Dick
John Hoomes received substantial lands in Jefferson, Lincoln and Nelson counties in the 1780s and 1790s . In Lincoln, John was granted 7187 acres on the Salt River and Kentucky Rivers in 1789. The grant is listed as “Same and Heirs.
These two locations on these two rivers could be anywhere in present day Lincoln, Boyle, Mercer and Garrard Counties. Of, course, in 1784, the counties were entirely different than today. Lincoln occupied a major portion of present–day Kentucky, then a part of Virginia.
1789:John Hoomes was granted 10000 acres in Lincoln on Benson and Hammond Creek. It appears that these creeks are near Lawrenceburg, Kentucky about 40 miles north of Stanford and west of Lexington.
1785: John Hoomes was also granted 3250 acres in 1785 on the Green River in Jefferson County and 13,412 ¾ acres in Nelson County in 1792.Present day Jefferson is near the Benson Grant. Present day Nelson County is further west at Bardstown.
