Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of Wilfred and Rose Holtzman! Your posting was very informative and interesting. Thanks so much.

I was finally able to re-establish contact the person who had initially asked me to see what I could find out about Wilfred after his divorce from Ina. As I believe I mentioned before, this person lived across the hall from Ina and children Barbara and Wilfred in Ithica, NY. In fact, Barbara and this person where about the same age and formed a friendship which continued over the years until Barbara’s death on 11 Nov 2002 in Rancho Mirage, Riverside county, California (listed on the SSDI as Barbara S. Pontius, born 21 Sep 1917). Apparently Barbara had been in poor health for many years but refused to see a doctor (my contact thought it had to do with Christian Scientist teachings although my contact had never known her to be active in that church). I do have further information about this family but since it involves living people I would prefer to share that with you privately if you are interested. This would also apply to Barbara’s brother Wilfred Straight Holtzman who did die as you know in California in 1959 and his family.

Apparently, after Wilfred and Ina divorced, all contact between them was discontinued. In fact, the children were never to see their father again. Ina and the children left N.Y. sometime between 1935-39 for California via a short stop in Iowa(?). They settled in Pasadena, CA where my contact came for a visit in 1941. Ina married and divorced two more times after she and Wilfred went their separate ways but she always claimed that Wilfred was her “only true love”.

According to information given to my contact, Wilfred, after his divorce from Ina, fell in love with a woman who was a devout Catholic. He was afraid that she would not marry him if she knew that he had been married and divorced, so he didn’t tell her. The story goes that they had at least two children, a boy and a girl but nothing else is known.

Lastly, Wilfred supposedly studied under Frank Lloyd Wright (no facts, just talk). We do know however, through various documents, that he was a practicing architect. My contact also heard that the house in Adel, Iowa owned by Wilfred and Ina Holtzman, was very unique and special. It is thought that Wilfred was the architect for that house.

Looks like it was my turn to be wordy. I hope though, that I have been as informative as you were in your last posting.
Best regards,
