There is a Peter J. Holzmann (widowed) living in Marshfield, Wisconsin in 1880 with his son Henry. This Peter was born in 1817 in Prussia.Mathias Holzmann lived in the same area with his wife Mary which could be your Anna. They moved to the Dakota Territory in 1883. They had four daughters, Anna (b.1875), Margaret (aka Maggie b. 1877), Elizabeth (aka Lizzie b. 1879) and Mamie (b. abt 1881). They homesteaded in Potter County, South Dakota near Hoven. There Rose, Catherine, Francis, Clara, John & Bert were born. They then moved to Bowdle, South Dakota in 1898. Matt worked for the St. Croix Lumber Company. In 1920 he retired and moved back to Wisconsin where his wife passed away in 1921. He then moved back to South Dakota and lived with his daughter, Mrs. Rose Ryan until his death in 1940 at the age of 92. As of 1961, Mamie was married to a Jackson and lived in Tacoma, Washington; Catherine was married to a Thommen and lived in Bowdle, South Dakota; Francis was living to a Tonner and living in Aberdeen, South, Dakota; and John was living in Smithland, Iowa. Peter J. Holzman also had sons Henry, James, & Arnold.
This Peter had a brother John. I also believe he had a sister Augusta who had her mother living with her by the name of Johanna. According to the 1880 census, Mathia was not born in Germany, rather in Wisconsin. Peter came to America prior to 1853.
