Origin of the Homan name

I believe our family is directly related to Anders Anderson Homan (Homman). I've documented back to 1763 to Samuel S. Homan, one of three sons of Peter and Anne (Cox) Homan from the Gloucester, NJ area.
My understanding is that Hömman, in Swedish, means "man of the island."Anders had been sent as a military man to protect the colony of New Sweden. He was stationed on an island in the Delaware River and, therefore, obtained the new surname. To this day, the letter "ö" means "island" in the Swedish language.
It is documented that Anders, arrived in 1643 on a ship named the Fama (Swedish for swan), married a Katrine (a Finn) in 1645 had they had 9 children. Documentation from that generation to Peter and Anne (Cox) Homan has been difficult to find. I believe an early, if not the first, generation dropped the double "m" from the surname.
