The overwhelming majority of Honakers in America descend from Hans Jacob Honaker, a Swiss immigrant who landed in Philadelphia at the end of August 1749. Our 1998 book, Honaker Family in America, 1,437 pages, listed more than 20,000 descendants who had been reported to us. We do not have Archie in the book.

After the book was published, we recorded the following information about him in the book supplement, a CD-ROM:

A Special Certificate of Birth, in lieu of a regular birth certificate, exists for Archie Honaker, born 11 Sep 1910 in Phelps, Pike Co., Ky., to Robert Luther Honaker, 43 at Archie’s birth, born in Buchanan Co., Va., and Merica [America(?)] Dotson, age unknown at Archie’s birth, born in Phelps. At the time of the Special Certificate, 4 Feb 1965, Robert Luther was living but Merica was deceased. The affidavit was signed by Archie and his sister, Lear Dotson. Lear was then 69, living in Phelps.

We would be grateful if you would let us know if and when you identify Robert Luther's line. Since many of the first American born generation were living in Virginia, it could be just about any of them.

You are welcome to join us as a member, $15 a year, which gets you quarterly newsletters. Our next reunion will be in Vincennes, Ind., where three of the first American generation Honakers fought with Gen. George Rogers Clark in the American Revolution.

Good luck with your search. There are a lot of Honakers in Pike County, including blacks descended from our family slaves. We have done a lot of stories about Kentucky Honakers in our newsletters, and some of them will be mentioned in the next newsletter. The first Pike County Sheriff was a Honaker.

Kind regards, your cousin, Tom Hanlin, Honaker Family Assn., P.O. Box 3636, Alexandria VA 22302.
