In Reply to: Decendants of Jacob Honaker dob 1825 or 1827 by Anna Honaker McNeill of 975

Honaker Family in America, 1,437 pages, published in 1998, does not list your Jacob. Since that book was published, its supplement now has more than 1,000 pages. We do have your Jacob in it, as follows, reported by Joyce Wood, but we still do not know his relationship to us, if any.

Most but not all Honakers in America are descended from Swiss immigrant Hans Jacob Honaker, whose sons Peter and Isaac settled in Kentucky. Your Jacob would be about the third American generation, but we are not presently able to identify him. It may be that he is not part of our line.

If you would like to receive our quarterly newsletter, which will keep you abreast of family news, send $15 to Charles Whalin, 2303 Newmarket Dr., Louisville, KY 40222.

We have a data base of more than 35,000 Honakers. Sorry we don't have a positive ID on yours. Please look at the attached and let us know (thanlin@juno.com) where to add your family to what we know. Someday we may get it together.

Kind regards, Tom Hanlin, volunteer, Honaker Family Assn., P.O. Box 3636, Alexandria VA 22302-0636.

1. Jacob B.H.[1] Honaker. Born 21 Aug 1826 in Greenbrier (also seen as Monroe) Co., (West) Va. Died 28 Jul 1886 of typhoid fever in Upper Ironton Twp., Lawrence Co., Ohio. The earliest known definite documentation on Jacob B.H. is contained in the 1850 Greenbrier County census, where he was listed as 23-year-old Jocob B.H. Twenty years before, the 1830 Monroe County census, p. 24, identified an unnamed male child under five living in the home of Jacob[2] Honeker (Frederick[1]). This unnamed child was again reported in the 1840 census. He could have been Jacob B.H., whose birth date could make him the youngest child of Jacobís first marriage (the death date of Jacobís first wife, Elizabeth, is not known.)
The Frederick[1] Honaker family moved from Rockingham County to Greenbrier County in 1799. Soon thereafter this part of Greenbrier County was incorporated into Monroe County. Because both Greenbrier and Monroe Counties were reported as Jacob B.H.ís birthplace, this is circumstantial evidence that Jacob B.H. might have been a Frederick descendant.
On 14 Aug 1850, when the census taker visited, Jacob B.H.ís family was living in Lewisburg, Greenbrier Co., (West) Va. At the time of Jacob B.H.ís second marriage in Apr 1864, they were in Gallia Co., Ohio. The 1870 census enumerated Jacob B.H., his second wife Jerusha, and children Mary, Esther, John and Joseph in Belle Fonte Furnace Township, Greenup Co., Ky. Jacob was listed with no real property and $200 worth of personal property. The 1880 census placed Jacob B.H. back in Ohio, living in Rome Township, Lawrence County.
