Alexander Bennett Hone 1834 Ireland
I believe that my great grandfather, Alexander Bennett Hone, was born in Bushmills, Ireland in 1834. I have no information about his ancestors but his middle name, Bennett, is usually a surname and may have been the maiden name of his mother or a grandmother. He emigrated to the US, probably through Canada since there is no record of his arrival in New York or Boston, in the 1840s, and lived with his uncle and aunt, James and Rosa Hone in Chazy, New York, which is just across the border from Canada. James was born in Ireland in 1794 and Rosa was born in Ireland in 1798 and they emigrated to Chazy in the 1820s. James and Rosa Hone had at least two children, Rosella, born in 1825, and James, born in 1834.
In 1855, Alexander married Ellen Kearney, a daughter of Patrick Kearney, who emigrated from Ireland to Rochester, New York in about 1830. They had five children: Alexander Kearney, Francis James, Charles A., Joseph B. and Helen. After Ellen died Alexander married Mary Curran and they had three children: Augustine B., Philip E. and Charlotte M. These given names may have been traditional in the Hone family and may have been used again in later generations.
If you have any information about Alexander Bennett Hone, or find that his children's names are the same as names which were used in your family, I would very much appreciate hearing from you.
