Austin Honeycutt (c1818 - Aug 1879)
I recently found the date of death for Austin Honeycutt of Union Parish Louisiana. He was the son of John Honeycutt, Jr. (c1774 - 1857) and his wife, Mary Feazel. Their fathers, John Honeycutt, Sr. and George Feazel, were among the very earliest settlers of what is now Union Parish. John Honeycutt, Sr. arrived in the Ouachita Valley in the early 1790s and settled near Bayou D'Arbonne, the region that became southern Union Parish Louisiana in 1839. George Feazel arrived there in 1814.
Censuses indicate that Austin Honeycutt was born about 1818, in what was then northern Ouachita Parish, but in 1839 became southern Union Parish Louisiana. Austin lived in Union Parish in 1850 and 1860. He is not found on the 1870 census, and much online information claims that he moved to Rapides Parish Louisiana and died there after 1900. These claims are false. The Austin Honeycutt of Union Parish died there of pneumonia in August 1879. The Mortality Schedule states gives this information, and it indicates that this man was a native of the parish.
If there was an Austin Honeycutt who died in Rapides Parish, it was another man.
