I ran into Hay yesterday while doing some land research in the Stafford records. On Feb. 18, 1859 John W. Mitchell of Fredericksburg conveyed the 155-acre Monroe Gold Mine to Edward Josephi of New York.John had incurred substantial debts and liens against the property were held by John S. Caldwell, Edward McDowell, Jane Morris, Mary McCoull, Elizabeth F. McCoull in her own right as trustee for Helen B. McEnery, and Hay B. Hoomes. All of these individuals agreed to release the land so that it could be deeded to Josephi. He paid $3250 for the mine. This probably doesn't give you anything worthwhile for your biographical sketch, but I always find it interesting to see how these folks were connected. This deed is in Stafford Deed Book 1, p. 289.
