A Thomas Nelson of King Williamn County, Virginia was the son of William Nelson and grandson of another Thomas, governor of Virginia and signer of the declaration of independence.

The younger Thomas apparently had children by a Jane Spurlock, a mullato woman. In ca 1813 he deeded property to her Spurlock children. Eventually some of these children "passed" into white society, others lived as African-Americans. One was a "white" Union soldier from Indiana.

As I researched the Nelsons ans Spurlocks in King Wlliam, I found an association with people named Hoomes ca 1830-1850.
These Spurlocks also had an admixture of native American.
Some still live in King William today.

I post this as there seems to be little data here on the Hoomes family.
