Hoomes in Virginia

The Hoomes family all descend from Major John Thomas Hoomes who was given a crown land grant from the King of England in what is now near Bowling Green Va. John built a mansion that is still standing in Bowling Green and is the second oldest structure in the state. It was built around 1660. Most of the Hoomes changed their names to Holmes but many descendants of Churchill Hoomes still use the HOOMES spelling. Churchill left VA and settled in South Alabama Escambia County. I have lots of information on the HOOMES family
