May have found my mother's birth certificate!!
On October 22, 2001 I posted a message requesting assistance in locating my Mother, Florence Hoopes' birth records. She was born in 1911, most likely in Philadelphia, but never knew the names of her parents or her exact birthdate.According to a letter from the Children's Aid Society of Philadelphia, my mother was originally left with the Philadelphia General Hospital.Doctors at the hospital judged her to be about eight months of age and "assigned" her a birthdate of September 24, 1911.Her birthday was always celebrated, however, on October 12.
I had written to the Bureau of Vital Statistics who stated that they could not find a birth certificate for a Florence Hoopes who would have been born in September or October of 1911.Recently I received a letter from the agency that maintains records for the now closed Philadelphia General Hospital. They had searched their records and could find nothing regarding a Florence Hoopes being a patient there in May or June of 1912--the time period which the Children's Aid Society stated that she was there.
I also received a letter from the Philadelphia Archives.Enclosed with the letter was a copy of a birth certificate fora Florence Yorke Hoopes who was born in Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia on December 24, 1911.Since the doctors did not know her exact birthdate, perhaps they misjudged her age.According to the records from the Philadelphia Archives, she was the only Florence Hoopes born in Philadelphia in 1911.Her parents were listed as Bernard Hoopes, age 42, and M.A. Hoopes, age 35.The residence of her parents was Bala, Pennsylvania.
Does anyone have any information on either of these people?Although I do not know if they were the parents of my mother, I have run out of resources in my search for any information about her birth.
Thank you.
