I can't help right now with your request. But, my grandmother's maiden name was Hopton and she was raised around the same area in Ohio. I will try to do more research, but, I do know the following:

Her father was Walter or Charles Hopton and her mother was Oda B. Hopton. They had 9 children: Charles was the oldest (born late 1800's/early 1900's?), Walter, Robert, Bonnie Virginia, Hazel, Frank (died as around age 2), Lorena, Leila, and my grandmother, Margaret (b.1910 - d.1987).

I know my grandmother was born in Jerusalem, Ohio - which I believe is Belmont County - or at least that area.

I would guess that my Hopton family is in some way related to Samuel Hopton.

I just happened upon your message when I was researching my grandfather's family. I will ask my father what he knows about Samuel. In addition, one of my grandmother's brothers is still living - I'll see what he knows.

So, any chance you've run across any of these Hopton's in your searching? My great uncle Charlie still lived in that area up until his death - maybe 10 years ago or so.
