Hopton mystery

My Birley family were at one time stone masons in the parish of Wirksworth, Derbyshire, England. There is a small township in that parish called Hopton and there was a "Hopton Quarry" nearby producing stone. For many years I have had a sampler which belonged to my Great Aunt, along the bottom of which is the embroidered legend "Mary Hopton's work aged 10 years 1839". Unfortunately I had no idea of its existence before my GA's death so could not question where she had got it from or who had made it. She may have picked it up somewhere as a curiosity given the surname and the (possible) place of employment of our ancestors or she may well have known exactly who Mary was. It hangs on my wall and I often look at it and think "Mary, who were you?" If any Hoptons out there have a clue please let me know.....
