I am researching the Mawdsley family history, but have come to a dead end with this individual. On a marriage certificate (married Mar22,1856 in Bury) of John Mawdsley (born 1830 Walmersley, Lancashire) and Ann Kershaw (born 1832 Tottington), John's father is listed as "Robert Horrocks". I don't understand this at all. I don't think they had birth certificates in 1830, and Parish records aren't helping. Any suggestions?
