I need advice/comments/ help re my Horrocks brick wall. I also need patience
from you as I being even more long winded than normal.
If any of the below rings a bell please let meknow.
William mcMullen married
Ann Horrocks 1st Agust 1842 Parish Church Wigan. her age was given as 18,
she was a throstle spinner and her dad was John Horrocks, a crofter. She lived
at Stewart Street which I believe was in Scholes Wigan.William Mcmullen also lived
there.
On 1851 census she gives her place of birth as Leeds Yorkshire. Shes still in Wigan

She has also become a bit younger giving her year of birth as abt 1826.
John McMullen is shown as brother but a Matthew Horrocks is shown as lodger,
born Wigan abt 1829.
In 1856 Ann dies in Co Durham, her age is given as 27.
I have searched 1841 census but cant find Ann anywhere, mind you I cant find
William McMullens brother John either.
I have looked for Yorkshire Horrocks and not found anything of interest...
till now.

A Horrocks born in Yorkshire and living in Wigan, well Ince actually.
So I searched for earlier years, each year he says born Wigan so why decide
1881 to say somewhere in yorkshire?
What is particularly interesting is his 1841 entry, he has a younger
brotther who is none other than Matthew Horrocks, my Anns lodger of 1851. And dad is
John.

Ive checked as much as I can and they all give Wigan as place of birth
throughout census records so whats the verdict?
Could Matthew Horrocks be Anns brother rather than lodger?
If so then could William who looks like the eldest sibling and Ann who
admittedly isnt on 1841 census, have been born in Yorkshire and brought to Wigan
while little?
If so can I believe mam and dad were born Wigan or did they originate
elsewhere?
I know my William McMullen denied his Irish heritage, at the risk of
sounding naive, would Yorkshire born people living in Wigan come across the same
type of prejudice perhaps, no lancs/Yorkshire insultsintended.
