My great-great grandfather was named Elisha HORSWELL, born in Stonehouse, Devon, England in 1824. There appear to be two or three Elisha Horswells born in the same year in Devon, cousins perhaps? I have Elisha's marriage certificate that states his father was John HORSMAN, a farmer and Elisha was a sawyer. Their address was Hobart Street, Stonehouse at the time of the marriage on 1 Jan 1848. He married Caroline SAUNDERS, daughter of William SAUNDERS. They emigrated to Ontario, Canada, around 1853, and then to Rochester, NY. They had at least 7 children, mostly born in Canada, but conflicting records indicate that the oldest child (yet another) Elisha b 1853 may have been born in England. I'd appreciate any clues others on the Horswell quest may have.
