I originally found the Claiborn Horton Bible in Louisa G. Lynch's "Bible Records, Williamson County, Tennessee" pp. 106-107.This weekend I also saw it in the Williamson County Genealogy/Historical Association's publication, but unfortunately did not note the issue.
I have also found Claiborn, Henry C., and William (and other) Horton in Lancaster Co., SC.Not many records survive from there, but there is enough evidence to prove that they were from there (including the 1810 and 1820 census).
Besides White's "Hortons in America," I found Banks McLaurin Jr.'s "Descendants of Barnabas Horton of Southold" to be a useful reference with a lot of data to complement the first.
This still doesn't answer the question of who Allison Horton's father was, but the fact that Claiborn Horton was a Methodist circuit rider and Allison was a Methodist preacher, is certainly encouraging.Claiborn was my prime candidate for Allison's father until I found that Bible and he wasn't listed among the children.
