Wilma,
My name is Nancy McClellan and I am a Pitts researcher.I am in possession of a document which may be of interest to you.I have a Guion Miller Indian Application made by
Elizabeth Horton Pitts. In this document she gives her lineage on her mother's side.Elizabeth Horton married William Balis Pitts. He was deceased by 1908 when she filled out this application. Her father was Joshua Horton and her mother was Nancy Horton, maiden name Hightower.Elizabeth's
brothers and sisters were:
William Horton, b don't know died 1864,
Archie Horton b don't know died 1865,
Henry David Horton b don't know, died 1896,
Fleming Payne Horton b don't know died 1863,
Felix Green Horton b don't know died 1862,
Joshua Welborn Horton b don't know died 1863.
The question was who were her brothers and sisters.I have no way of knowing if she misunderstood this question.Later she makes a statement and I will type as written:
"My grandmother was Mary Wall who married James Robert
Hightower. My mother was Nancy Hightower who married
Felix Vaughn and her second marriage was to Joshua
Horton and I am the youngest child of the last
marriage and I married William Balis Pitts Apr 22
188?"(can't tell the last number of the year she
married)
There is a lot more information. If you would like a copy of the document please let me know.I am looking for any
information on the son of Elizabeth Horton and William B Pitts. His name was John J Pitts born abt 1877 according to the census. Any information you may be able to give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nancy McClellan
