To finish up Mark Cole,
Mark COLE had land on Persimmon Branch of Cedar Creek. He and Dandridge Hilliard carried chains for a resurvey of 120 acres of the heirs of William Johnson decd adjoining Robert Cunningham and John Barnes (M, 550). He also carried chains for a survey of Hicklin land on Bear Creek in 1832. On the 1830 census, Mark COLE is listed as head of house of a household which included a woman in her 60s and four other women in age brackets 15-40. On the 1840 census, Mark COLE is listed as head of house of a household which included a woman in her 70s and four women in 20-50 age brackets. Probably the household included his mother, born 1763, and sisters who are not otherwise listed that year. The date of his death was recorded in the Hicklin family Bible as were that of Sarah (1763--1854), Henry H, and other COLEs.
Sisters of Henry H COLE:
4th A---- COLE (daughter) [ca 1790--1850s]
Known only by her first initial on the 1850 census. [Although there is no evidence, it would not be surprising to learn that she was named Alice for her grandmother.]
Susan COLE [ca 1800--8 Feb 1864]
The date of death appears in the Hicklin family Bible. On 31 July 1843, Miss Susan Coal was witness to the marriage of John G Houze [b ca 1804] to Jane L Dunlap at the residence of George Dunlap, with Wiley Horton as officiating minister ("copied from an old Hanging Rock and Lancaster Circuit Record Book now in the possession of Saint Luke Methodist Church at Elgin", in History of Lancaster First Methodist Church 1833--1961).
Edy J COLE [ca 1803--living 1880]
As of 1880, Edy J and Mary P COLE were listed as sisters and residing in Cedar Creek Twp, Lancaster County, SC.
Mary P COLE [ca 1813--living 1880]
As of 1880, Edy J and Mary P COLE were listed as sisters and residing in Cedar Creek Twp, Lancaster County, SC. One Mary COLE belonged to the Lancaster Methodist Episcopal Church.
Henry H COLE [2 Sept 1793--6 Aug 1870]
Married Elizabeth Hicklin [Ca 1795--15 May 1849] on 21 December 1815. She was a daughter of Arthur [d 19 Nov 1799] and Elizabeth (Williams) [1762--ca 1803] Hicklin and granddaughter of Arthur and Jane Hicklin. Henry's birth, death, and marriage dates appear in the Hicklin family Bible. Elizabeth's death date is found also in that source. Ann Carson Hicklin's Arthur Hicklin and his Descendants of South Carolina (Arden, NC, 1978) reports that the date given for Arthur Hicklin's birth, 7 March 1758, does not fit with his being granted land in 1765. "In 1793 he married Elizabeth Williams. Elizabeth was born in 1762 and died in 1803."
George Hicklin [1754--1824] reared Elizabeth and Sarah, the children of his deceased brother Arthur Hicklin [d 1799], and provided for their heirs in his will of Dec 1823. That will mentions Alexander Creyon, son of Sarah, and the children of Elizabeth and Henry COLE. On 9 July 1830, Sarah COLE, Jane COLE, Wm A COLE, and Jincy COLE, by Henry H COLE ("next friend"), entered a bill for partition, the defendant being Alex Creyon otherwise called Alex Crain a minor of age 17. James Crain was appointed guardian ad litem for Alex Crain while Henry H COLE was appointed the same for the COLE minors, the oldest of whom was about 12. The legal question was whether half was to be divided among the COLEs and half awarded to their cousin or the whole divided equally among the five children. Henry W Dessausure noted that the division was not to be made until the oldest had reached age 21 or married and thus the "application is premature" and dismissed the bill. (Lancaster District, SC, Equity Minutes Book A, 1822-1859, pp 82 ff.)
1855 (R, 9): Andrew McIlwain Senior sold to Alexander Carter 234 acres on the northwest side of Camp Creek "where Joseph Carter now lives", bounded by lands of H. V. Massey, Redden Thompson, Henry COLE, McMullens, and Mrs Tersa Brown.
Henry H COLE made a will, dated 6 June 1870 and proved 18 Oct 1870, in Lancaster Co (Will Book A, pp 135-136), witnessed by John W Twitty (proving witness), Sarah Cauthen, and Jane C Houze. His 127 acres on Camp Creek went to his daughter Jincie R COLE, executrix, who had remained at home to keep house for him for 21 years after his wife's death, "she having remained with me so long and done so much - I shall not be able to remunerate her". He also left one bed and furniture, a bay horse, one cow and calf, a small table, chest, trunk, and spinning wheel. "It will be observed that I have made no provisions in this will for my son William A Cole's children, for the children of my deceased daughter Jane C Bell, and my daughter Sarah H Van Landingham but I believe they have all received as much as my circumstances will enable me to do . . . ." He signed with a mark.

Jane C COLE [26 Nov 1818--28 May 1866]
Married George Washington Bell [27 Feb 1824--1913] on 22 Nov 1842. Jane's birth, death, and marriage dates appear in the Hicklin family Bible.

Unmarried. Heir to her father's land. Her will was proved 17 Nov 1894. Her heirs were M E Cauthen (niece) and W T Van Landingham (nephew). Jincie's birth date appears in the Hicklin family Bible.
One, at least, of the following was probably a brother of Hnery C COLE.
John W COLE [born ca 1783 or 1788]
Married in 1815 or 1816 Margaret Hood [ca 1791--1880], daughter of Archibald and Catherine Hood. Archibald and Catherine Hood were probably the parents of Allen Hood, Catherine Hood who married Wiley Howell, and Margaret who married John COLE. John COLE move about 1833 to the part of Monroe Co, GA which is now Lamar Co. He appears in the 1840 census. The families moved to Russell Co, AL by 1850. Some family members moved to Elmore Co, AL by 1870. Margaret was in the 1880 AL mortality schedule, died in Russell Co, aged 89, b SC, parents b U.S. John W COLE filed a pension claim, which was denied, for War of 1812 service. On 20 July 1871 in Crawford, AL, aged 88; wife Margaret Hood married Kershaw Dist, SC 25 Dec 1816. On 30 March 1874 he applied as John COLE, aged 86, resided at
Clapps Factory, Columbus, Muscogee Co, GA; married Margaret Hood 17 Feb 1815. (Research done and provided by Cynthia I Nason, descendant of John W Cole.)
James COLE [b ca 1784]
Married Margaret -----, whose maiden name was possibly Margaret Black. Dr. Bartlett Jones's ledger refers to "James ColeBlack's Son in law" as a patient. In 1835, James sold his property (with John Black as witness) and is not found again in Lancaster Co, SC records.
1805 (G, 20): William Hicklin Senr (wife Sarah) sold to James COLE 200 acres on Bear branch for $100 bounded by lands of William Gibson, Widow Addison, Zachariah Hicklin, Robert McDowell.
1835, Dec 10 (N, 66): James COLE (wife Margaret) sold to Littleton Houze 150 acres "whereon this James Cole presently resides", measured from an oak on Nancy Graham's line, a line running east to Henry Cole's line, then north to Nelson Bell's line, then to Robert McDowell's line, a branch between Cole and McDowell, and back to Nancy Graham's line. Witnesses: James N Houston and John Black. Margaret Cole (signed with a mark) appeared as wife of James COLE.
