A History of East Amwell, NJp. 42
Johannes Houshell (Howsell, Housilt, Houschilt) came to the Amwell Valley and purchased land south of Ringoes along the Old Youk Road in 1729 from Joseph Arney. The site of his house is unknown but may perhaps have existed where the magnificent brick house called the Queen of the Valley was later built at the turn of the century. Johannes died in 1761 and in his will dated February 5 and proven April 4, he left to his wife, Nelley, L10 to be paid to her by their sons Peter and William, and required they provide for their mother's future needs. He left the plantation "I now live on " and the house and lot he had purchased from his son-in-law, Andrew Trimmer, to his sons.In 1792, William Houshell, who apparently had purchased or inherited his brother's share of the plantation, sold the tract and moved to the Readington Township.Mathias and Jacob Househll, Johannes' two brothers were executors of his will.
