I am a descendent of Hokan Hovander. He was my great-grandfather. The name was patented around 1890 I believe. Other versions were Olander by his brother(s) and also Hofvander. The Swedish changed surnames every generation until around 1890. The last change was to the son of a fellow named "Ols". His son was Hokan "Olsson". To eliminate confusion the name was changed to Hofvander by Hokan while in Sweden. For some reason some of the US Swedish immigrants (all related) changed from Hofvander to Hovander. There are still some Hofvanders in Sweden, US, and Norway I believe.

My Mom and relatives named Craig and Lisa are the geneology experts in the family.

There are plans for a big international family reunion brewing for May or June in Reno.
