MARY S. HOVER TEALE, who died Dec. 22nd, was the daughter of WM. and MARY HOVER, was born in West Salem, Mercer Co., Penn., Sept. 8th, l84l. The family with four children moved to Ill. in l847, going by steamboat down the Ohio to Cairo, and up the Mississippi to Galena, the family living in Jo Daviess and Stephenson Counties from that time on. In l860 the mother died leaving MARY, the eldest living daughter at the age of l9 in care of the family. Her father afterwards married again, and died in l894, aged 8l years. MARY was married to JAS. E. TEALE in l865, and moved to Decatur Co., Ia., where they commenced house-keeping and have lived in the county since, except three years sojourn in California. There were born to them seven children -- FRANK D., aged ten years, died in Jan., l884; HIRAM A., aged l6, died in Jan., l884. Of the five surviving children, three are married. All were present at their mother's death. There was no more faithful and loving wife and mother; she could never do enough for her family and was always solicitious for their welfare.
She has been a great sufferer from sickness at different periods, especially about fourteen years ago. Her last sickness began about two years ago, and the decline was constant. Only her own great pluck, with good nursing, bore her up so long. Her age was 56 years, 3 months and l4 days. she was buried beside her children under the auspices of the Rebekah Degree Lodge, l57 I.O.O.F., of Davis city, of which she was a charter member, and Past Noble Grand. The members of the Subordinate Lodge 3l4 I.O.O.F., also attended the funeral in a body in full regalia. Services were held at the house by Rev. J.A. McKay of the Presbyterian Church of which MRS. TEALE was a member.
