KAY BLACKWELL 9/16/02
According to my grand uncle Blair Hovis in 198?, the answer is Yes... There is a cemetary near the old Hovis place on spencer's mountain ( i think it is spencer's) that lists george as a revolutionary war participant at kings mountain, i believe. There is a monument that lists george' children and allows direct decendents access to a plot.I know uncle blair intended at that time to be buried there. He and my father took me and my children to see it. He was well into his nineties at the time, and has since passed (or is the oldest man alive and is hiding it from his relatives). I am a direct decendent of Tobias and Margrathe who begat george sr who begat george jr who begat david who begatjohn who begat michael who begat charles who begat hugh augustus and blair among others (my grandfather was eldest, uncle blair youngest) hugh begat james and woodrow (my father) who begat my brother alan (deceased 1950-1966)and cheryl Hovis (Coni- married 1971, born 1951) who begat stephanie 1972Married Jim Russell IV 2004 and william jr (1976)who married Rhonda Linnell this 4/30/2005. All of my relatives listed before me have passed. James's Son Douglas passed in late 50's or early 60's in a planecrash as a navy test pilot in Virginia. his daughter is presumed alive. His daughter Elizabeth was living when my father died, but I have lost touch. She has a son and daughter and was living in the D C / Maryland area and married a Beil.
I would love to know exactly what george did in the revolutionary war if you should stumble upon it....
