Greetings,
What an enjoyable stream of messages! I have been in this hobby for a couple of years and in that time have encountered:
• All sorts of dead ends.
• Phony pedigrees.
• Dozens of exciting finds in census and cemetery records and the like.
• Misprints in government documents.
• Unrelated strangers who have led me to important info.
• A couple of genuine relatives I didn't know exist.
Most fun of all is having a name and approximate datetransform into flesh and blood human beings who made a difference in their communities.
A couple we know work in fire lookout towers. One of the techniques for pinpointing fires is to take readings from two or more different towers and find the point of intersection. That's where the firefighters are sent. For me, "satisfactory proof" in genealogy occurs where lines of information seem to converge at a single point.
