Howard & Quakers MD to NC
Hi List, I am finding a lot of Quaker hints for Anne Arundel CO MD and it appears there were a lot of Quakers in this county 1650s on later.
I copied a several pages on the history of Anne Arundel and found this. I would like to add I am working on the Owings and the Boones of NC, MD and PA. I found a Cornelius Howard with the Boone family 1768 Rowan CO NC tax list of Morgan Bryan JR uncle of Rebecca Bryan who marr. Daniel Boone. I have a listed printout of children of Josph Bryan & Alyee Linville. Danile Boone's brother -in-law is listed as Cornelius Howard who marr. Mary Bryan sister of Rebecca Bryan Boone. I found the Howards' listed in the Baltimore CO MD families by Robert W. Barnes 1989.
Anne Arundel CO MD-
Delagates - 1671- Cornelius Howard, William Burges, Thomas Taylor, Robert Francklyn and Samuel Chew.
Delagates 1657-
William Burgess, Robert Burle- some of the MD Boones' listed him as the father of Rachel Burle who marr. Humphrey Boone and he has a will in Baltimore CO MD 1709. This Boone has a Thomas Cockey on his will and believed to be related to the Owings and Cockeys of Baltimore CO MD.
Delagates 1680-1682- Cornelius Howard , Edward Burgess,Henry Ridgely, Edward Dorsey he has ties to the Owings of Baltimore CO MD and one lisitng shows a Quaker listing on this name, Capt. Nicholas Gassaway- I found a Nicholas Gassaway of Anne Arundel CO marr. Margaret Peirpoint of same county marr. 4.9.1747 at Gunpowder Monthly Meeting ( Quaker ) in Baltimore CO MD. The Owings are on these Gunpowder MMs 1740s to 1770s. The Cockeys are in these Gunpowder MMs the Galloways are listed.
The way i see it these families are branches of the Original Quaker immigrants who soon dropped out of this religeon after coming to MD from Wales and England. The Owings appear to be Owen and are found in Welsh tract records 1680s PA.
I am now tyring to connect the Boones' of MD to the Squire Boone family who were Quakers.
FYI- my Cope family is listed 1768 Rowan CO NC tax list of Morgan Bryan JR and the Cope surname is found as Quakers in PA and maybe DE 1683-1729.
