I am looking for relatives of Robert Howarth of Farnworth Bolton Lancs. All the info that i have is from 1914 onwards.. I Know that he lived in the Longcauseway/ Crompton st areas of Farnworth bolton. from 1916 onwards. He was wounded in WW1 and was Hospitalised in Chester, where he Married his Nurse......Annie Elizabeth Prile The problem that i have, is that on my Grandfathers grave, it gives his Dob as 1897 . On his marriage cert from 1916 it gives his age as 21 therefore Dob 1894/5. Family stories tell of him joining the army in 1914 aged only 14 and lying about his age to enlist? ( pretty common story ) So his Dob could be as late as 1900.or as early as 1894. I have no idea about his place of birth. Farnworth is now in Bolton Registration district, but it WAS linked with Radcliffe and Bury. On his marriage cert in 1916 it gives his father also named Robert as Coal Hewer ( Deceased ). So it is signed by an Alice Howarth. I assume that this is a close family member, Mother , Sister, Aunt etc. ... But i Have no proof??? Also i am told he may have had a relative who was associated with Hipwood and Grundy (hauliers of Farnworth) who went to America and set up a company......and possibly a relative who started up Howarths Timber merchants.( Maybe James or George Howarth) They had 5 children .....Kathleen ( Who died in 1918 aged 2..... James Robert (my dad).....William.....Robert( uncle Bob).....and Albert........... I contacted my Uncle -Bob just before he died and asked if he knew where Grandad was born. The answer was "platt lane". I Don,t know if that is Farnworth or Wigan. It could be anywhere? Until i find a lead i cant go back any further with the Howarths, so any help, pointers or clues would be gratefully received...........Thanks Brent Howarth . Notify Administrator about this message?
